240 mm core with living willow facade

In contrast to the conventional ´green´ noise barriers where the barrier itself is made of traditional building materials and then planted up, THE GREEN ELEMENT® is itself a green and living structure. The living facade comprises growing willow rods, planted at a depth of 60 cm and secured in a specially designed frame.  The living facade is light-dependent and suitable for south and west-facing locations. The reverse of the living facade is therefore made of dry willow (see description of dry facade below).  The core consists of a self-supporting 240 mm rock wool core built with 120 mm wool batting in a bond pattern. Dry willow elements are placed in the ground – usually in a concrete foundation. Further foundations may be required in exposed locations such as on banks and inclines.
